Dedicated to the memory of Tom

This site is a tribute to Tom. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

As a keen but often not very successful fisherman and life time member of The Eastbourne Angling Association, he was passionate about the RNLI. Thankfully he never needed their service but he couldn't walk past a lifeboat station without stopping to make a donation.

A celebration of Tom's life

Funeral service is at Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium on Friday 18th October 2024 at 11am

We kindly request no flowers. Any donations in memory of Tom should be made to the RNLI using the link. RNLI envelopes will be available on the day

My dear Uncle Tom, when I was very young, I use to sit by the window waiting for you to pop in to see me, mum and Nan on your way to work most mornings. It was the highlight of my day when I was at home. Then I used to stay with you, auntie Peggy and the boys sometimes during the school summer holidays. Waltham Abbey was so posh. I remember helping you fix your garage door, I was 15 or 16. I have so many memories of me going out with you all in your taxi. I remember you taking me on holiday with you all to Eastbourne to stay in the caravan. When someone got something wrong, you used to say ‘you dosser’. I grew up remembering that and called everyone ‘a dosser’ when someone got something wrong, and I still do. In 1998 you and I went on a cruise, and what a fantastic time we had. I remember us getting back to our cabin rather late one evening (we got back rather late every night, or the early hours I should say) and you closed the curtain to the port hole window before you got undressed, then said to yourself ‘why the f… have I done that, no one can see us, we’re in the middle of the ocean’ 🙈 We had such a laugh and too much beer, food and you always wanted to go to the chocolate treat every midnight - what a pair of gannets we were. We had a couple of swimming races in the pool. We didn’t have a cross word towards each other during our two weeks together. We just had a great time every day. It was lovely to spend time with you in Australia with auntie Edie, Chris, Barry and Rebecca in 2010 and for Auntie Edie’s 100th birthday in 2020. So many more lovely memories. I so wish we had spent more time together since 2020. I always thought you’d be there next month and next year, but sadly I was wrong. Rest in peace uncle. I’m sure you’re in that taxi up in the sky.
